5-6 medium apples peel and shred
5 eggs
2.75 C flour
1 tsp baking powder
3/4 C sugar plus 1 tbs sugar
2 sticks plus 1 tbs unsalted margarine
1 tbs cocoa
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Add flour, baking powder, 1 tbs sugar, margarine, egg yolks in bowl.
3. Mix to make (crumbs of) dough.
4. Separate the dough to two halves.
5. Spread one half onto greased baking pan. (Layer 1)
6. Split the other half into half again (so two quarters).
7. Mix one quarter with cocoa.
8. Put shredded apples on top of dough in the baking pan. (Layer 2)
9. Sprinkle a layer of the cocoa dough on top of the shredded apples. (Layer 3)
10. Take egg whites and remaining sugar to make meringue.
11. Put a layer of meringue on top of the cocoa dough. (Layer 4)
12. Sprinkle the fourth quarter of dough in crumbs on top of the meringue. (Layer 5)
13. Bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes.
NOTES: The dough should remain in a flaky crumble form, rather than as a solidified dough.
